The HTC Touch Pro
Call it Raphael no longer! HTC has officially thrown the cover off its Touch Pro today -- the QWERTY slider sibling of the recently-unveiled Touch Diamond -- which should cover the bases for those who loved the Diamond's keen looks but decided they'd go our of their gourds without a full set of physical keys at their disposal. Under that glossy black shell lies WiFi, HSPA with a solid 7.2Mbps on the downstream, Bluetooth, 2.8-inch VGA display, Windows Mobile 6.1 featuring HTC's TouchFLO 3D interface, a 3.2 megapixel camera, a half gig of ROM, and 288MB of RAM. It's not going to win any "world's thinnest" records with an 18.05mm waistline, but those five rows of textual healing don't come without a price. The first batch of devices will be Europe-bound in "late summer" with 900 / 2100MHz 3G alongside the quadband GSM and EDGE; North and Latin American versions are promised for later in the year.

such a sweet phone, too bad i'm willing to bet we will never see a CDMA version for verizon, so i could move on from the vx6800.
Ray @ Jun 4th 2008 2:09AM
I doubt theyll leave this too at&t and tmo... Well, my reasoning is that they wont have the X1 and TouchPro competing under the same carrier or likely the same network.
Any ways, sprint is already stated to getting this, and verizon is supposed to become compatible with all cdma devices, your not at a loss at all grant
iofthestorm @ Jun 4th 2008 2:15AM
If sprint gets this and SERO still exists by that time, life will be awesome. Of course, it will be even more awesome if someone is able to hack Android onto it so I can dual-boot a phone. How cool would that be?
iEye @ Jun 4th 2008 7:13AM
no me gusta
Gr1zz @ Jun 4th 2008 7:41AM
Forget dual boot, just give me Android on this phone.
bob cobb @ Jun 4th 2008 8:38AM
Damnit, why couldnt they make the screen 3.5" like the iPhone? Im on sprint right now and would like to stay for this, but I really cant wait til the fall for it, and browsing the web on a 2.8" screen still kinda sucks, no matter what the resolution is :(
Wii60Warrior @ Jun 4th 2008 8:47AM
I agree that this phone is SWEET. iPhone killer potential is definitely there.
However the screen sounds way small...if they had just made it a lil bigger I'd be 100% sold on it.
As it is right now after all the debating and agony I'm down to
1) 3G iPhone (which I hope turns out to be stellar and proves the haters wrong)
2) The Pro (Cuz I like to text a lot and I like the option of both using either the touch screen OR a normal keyboard)
3) The Diamond (Sweet design like the Pro).
Overall I like HTC's products. I don't know much about Win Mo so I can't say if I hate it or not. Why does everyone seem to hate on it so much?
OneLove @ Jun 4th 2008 10:55AM
NO GPS?
Phoenix @ Jun 4th 2008 11:11AM
It HAS GPS.
bob cobb @ Jun 4th 2008 12:43PM
I love it, low ranked because I tell the truth. I've been a WM sackrider for the longest time, and I think its time to jump ship. The 20% bigger screen of the iPhone doesnt hurt either
Phoenix @ Jun 4th 2008 1:35PM
20% bigger screen, half the resolution
riverfrontmedia @ Jun 9th 2008 10:16AM
iPhone screen half the reso;ution?? The NEW iphone has a higher resolution screen. Get a plate and a fork. Get some sauce. Prepare to eat your words! Yummy!
Namarrgon @ Jun 9th 2008 8:14PM
@riverfrontmedia: You enjoying the taste of those words yet?
eriknpf1 @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:07PM
I'm told the touch pro will hit the u.s. market late in the year. If I buy a European version, what's the difference. Quad band should work with little to no difference, Right?
Matt D @ Jul 9th 2008 6:39PM
Well here is the CDMA version of the Touch Diamond, could a CDMA version of the Touch Pro be far behind?
cyfcycyfc @ Aug 4th 2008 10:33PM
It will get a CDMA version for Sprint and Verizon, and yeah I see people hating on windows mobile, but this thing is compatible with Opera Mobile 9.5 which is for windows mobile.
retro77 @ Jun 4th 2008 2:09AM
Wow .............. [picking up jaw]
Slawek @ Jun 4th 2008 8:01AM
If it had GPS, someone would have to call an ambulance for me.
My jaw hurts.
Slawek @ Jun 4th 2008 8:05AM
"Integrated GPS can be used with maps software for a full turn-by-turn navigation experience."
Call an ambulan...

OneLove @ Jun 4th 2008 10:59AM
and TV OUT!!!!!!
OneLove @ Jun 4th 2008 11:13AM
it has 2 camera!?!!!!
The Diddler @ Jun 4th 2008 11:44AM
Oh man --
This thing is beautiful. I hope that I can upgrade to it on my current SERO plan. I currently have a Motorola 9Q (which is great), but its a little more sluggish than I'd have hoped. I do prefer Windows Mobile, though.
And just look at that interface! The color scheme is totally my aesthetic.
Two thumbs up, HTC.
maveric101 @ Jun 4th 2008 10:02PM
@oneLove: no, the lower looks like a flash. which is actually more useful.
but maybe you were being sarcastic and now i look like an idiot. oh well.
Jay @ Jun 8th 2008 10:47PM
There IS a second camera facing the front.
From the website:
"Camera
Main camera: 3.2 megapixel color camera with auto focus and flash light
Second camera: VGA CMOS color camera"
Josh @ Jun 4th 2008 2:11AM
@Chris
Is the release for later in the US you referred to the CDMA or is it a GSM version? I know it was previously posted that Sprint will be carrying it in September? Is that right, to the best of your knowledge? If you might have any more firm details on the US version/release, please share. :)
helloUser @ Jun 4th 2008 2:11AM
That looks REALLY slick. Tactile qwerty keyboard FTMFW!
Jakob Henner @ Jun 4th 2008 3:13AM
REALLY slick, easily the most beautiful Windows Mobile phone ever and the TouchFlo is perhaps slicker or equal to the iPhone.
It's difficult: iPhone 3G, Diamond or Pro?
iofthestorm @ Jun 4th 2008 3:23AM
Pro>Diamond unless you really need that extra bit of thinness.
Dillon @ Jun 4th 2008 3:57AM
So slick that I just totally slipped on it and fell off my computer chair.
Alan Strangis @ Jun 5th 2008 3:56PM
@ Jakob:
Tough call. I've been using an HTC Touch (first WM phone I had without keyboard), and don't miss it too much. The free on-screen keyboard from PocketCM is pretty nice, and skinnable to boot.
The Touch Pro IS about 20% thinner than my HTC Wizard though... hmmm... upgrade time?
TheBigB @ Jul 23rd 2008 5:38AM
@Jakob & Alan:
Not that hard of a choice
iPhone does not have a camera, neither does it have micro-sd slot
the Diamond does not have the sd slot and it doesn't have wifi
and touch pro has all, i think the choice is quite easy to make... of course depending on your needs.
Elisha Adeagbo @ Jun 4th 2008 2:11AM
i want you
Jedix123 @ Jun 4th 2008 2:17AM
... in my pants
Jimmy Jones @ Jun 4th 2008 2:22AM
err..........err..........err.....have you tried calling Grace Fuller (her #is listed) in the 3rd or 4th pic in the Touch Pro gallery? She's quite petite and hot (with flames) and good looking........err....so I presume she can fulfill your needs for the "I want you" part.......:-)
Tired_ @ Jun 4th 2008 4:16AM
@Jimmy Jones: That is quite possibly the most disturbing thing I have read all day.
yode @ Jun 5th 2008 11:47AM
i called, didn't work out between us :\
Paulmichael @ Jun 4th 2008 2:12AM
Man, that is one good-looking phone! Why do they keep switching what side the slide-out keyboard is on though? Haha. That's also a TON of ROM and RAM, you'd never have to close any applications nor soft-reset!
packetsniffer @ Jun 4th 2008 8:28AM
Oh you'll still be resetting -- it's still running Windows Mobile, remember?
andy @ Jun 4th 2008 10:27AM
Because with the Kaiser/Tilt they realized that it slid out on teh WRONG side (unless you're part of the 5% of the population that's left handed anyway).
Paulmichael @ Jun 4th 2008 5:10PM
But THIS would be for leftys in that configuration...Landscape for right handers has the d-pad on the left, doesn't it?
Colin Potter @ Jun 4th 2008 2:14AM
i have officially found my next phoneeeee
sorrryyy
gottt theee keysss aaallll stticckkky wheennn iiii picccturred thisss in mmy haannnds
danny @ Jun 4th 2008 2:17AM
that is one sexy piece of plastic
Derek @ Jun 4th 2008 2:18AM
Does it still have the orientation sensor and accelerometer?
Ed @ Jun 4th 2008 2:42PM
Yes...very similar to the touch diamond...but with a slide out keyboard...seems a bit thicker than i would like though.
Brent @ Jun 4th 2008 3:29AM
"don't come without a price"
"seems a bit thicker than i would like though."
I remember the first time I slid a 28.7 mm v60 into my pocket and thought "wow, it's nice not to have the bulk of a 5165"
Who knew that when they managed to cram everything everyone's been dreaming of into a phone that there would be people complaining about 18.05 mm.
Ethan @ Jun 6th 2008 2:16AM
18.05mm? That's all of 0.1 in thicker than my Curve. Anyone who seriously complains about this is a total idiot.
King Kang @ Jun 4th 2008 2:19AM
I thought it was sexy, but the Windows symbol totally turned me off.
Bummer.
Jon Doe. @ Jun 4th 2008 2:21AM
Looser.
tchapp @ Jun 4th 2008 2:29AM
what windows logo, moron. that's the screen.
Jon Doe. @ Jun 4th 2008 2:20AM
Dear T-Mobile,
Do us all a favor and update your freaking handhelds? The closest thing to this on your site is the Wing and its a 1 year old smartphone that looks like its design queues were taken from 2003.
Seriously I want to go T-Mobile but their phone selection is SLIGHTLY better the Sprint's which isn't saying much. If they got this phone I would be all over it.
