3G iPhone appears in Hong Kong?…Not really

Remember we saw the rumored leaked photos of the upcoming 3G iPhone? It’s black covered and way different from the current version. Well, our readers in Hong Kong saw the same stuff today. Wow. Is it world’s first 3G iPhone appeared in Hong Kong? Not really. According to our tipster, he said it is just a protection case for the current model of iPhone. You can have this cool facelift for the iPhone now if you live in Hong Kong. Sorry, folks, rumor smashed.

Edit: I am not saying iPhone 3G version will not be all black. I just want to say the picture currently on the internet is not the real 3G iPhone.

Edit 2: You can buy the case from here.

    [Thanks, Pak]

Yes… I’d love to know where to get this case too…

I’d order one in a sec.

Yeah! Where can I buy one of those? Anyone out there got one???

Seems odd that there’s the 8GB engraving on the back, and I seem to recall from an earlier “leaked” photo that the serial number was shown there as well. Do they custom engrave these things?

Do I smell a cover up?

    • 6. Steiner. replies at 27th April 2008, 4:16 am :

I also think that this could be a coverup. The bulged of the case seems to be slightly larger than existing iPhones, together with the fact that it can not be purchased it makes this very suspicious.

Looks like a plastic back panel that snaps onto the phone. It wouldnt be hard to print the 8gb and other stuff on it since its hard plastic.

this is a diversion that Apple fed to a little known website as viral marketting -

Can your source give the exact store where this was seen so someone else can verify it? I have two friends in Hong Kong and they’ve NEVER seen this.

      rus,

It’s in computer shop called “New Golden”. It’s in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon. This product is called colourware.

I would say this news is 100% confirmed. I personally see this colourware protection case after I receive the tip from Pak.

As I said before, I am not saying the 3G iPhone will not be all black, but the picture currently on the internet is not leaked 3G iPhone.

Just a suggestion, but does anyone think that this is a little strange? Maybe this isn’t a case at all, but the actual iPhone enclosure. If you look left, you see the back of the current iPhone with nothing else attached. Maybe this is a leak from the shop in Hong Kong where Apple is ordering their cases from. This might be the just the enclosure for the 3G iPhone. It doesn’t look like it just snaps on. It looks as though you have to take apart the entire phone to replace the aluminum with this. What do you think?

      Tim,

dude. I just went down to the street and help you to clear it out. I asked the shop owner and your suggestion is not correct after all. Sorry.

But, you know, as I mentioned, I am not saying the 3G iPhone will not be black at all, but, the current leaked picture is not the 3G iPhone for sure.
